March 8th marks the day all us outdoor enthusiasts have been looking forward too, and we couldn’t be more excited. After three long months of darkness, the clock finally springs forward an hour as the sun starts to set later and later throughout the day. Motivation and dopamine are restored as the new hours of sunlight bring out plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. With having about three extra hours of sunlight in your day, here are a few outdoor activities you can do to take advantage of these newfound hours.

Outdoor Activities For Photographers:

Now that the sun is staying out longer, you can finally grab your camera after work and head out to shoot. The golden hour now becomes the hours between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Grab your handy camera strap and camera, and go out and shoot with your friends! Days like these are the exact reasons summertime is a favorite. After a long day at work, what could be better than spending the rest of your day in the sunshine as opposed to darkness? With the sun setting later, this also means the nights are going to be getting warmer. Stargazing and night photography are among some of the best outdoor activities to do at night. Go on a night hike and bring your tripod! These warm summer nights invite photographers to spend the time outdoors so be sure to take advantage of the few months we have of this weather.

More Outdoor Activities:

Seeing a sunset is one of the more relaxing things to do, but rushing to catch it isn’t. With these new spring and summer hours coming up, you’ll have plenty of time to plan your sunset adventures. Go on an evening hike! Catch the sunset while surfing! With extended hours throughout the day, there are so many different outdoor opportunities for when it comes to watching the sun go down. If you are in the Los Angeles area, be sure to catch a sunset at Griffith Park. With the observatory staying open until 10:00 PM, it’s the ideal place to catch a sunset before stargazing from the hilltop. Just be sure the right camera equipment like a tripod or a camera strap to help you stabilize your camera if you plan on shooting in low light!

Here are a couple more outdoor activities you can do now that the sun is out later…

  • Read a book outside
  • Have a picnic during sunset
  • Enjoy dinner outside instead of inside
  • Campfires (longer days means warmer nights)
  • Go on an evening run

Another popular activity to do during these extended hours is to go camping. Be sure to check out some of our previous blogs for camping recommendations. By having extended daylight, our days will feel a bit longer and hopefully, we will feel more motivated. We all know relaxing at home watching TV is a great day to spend your evening, but take advantage of these new hours. It’s not every day of the year that the sun will be up past 8:00 PM! Have fun enjoying various outdoor activities, and be sure to capture all the fun with your camera!
